What an "Alternative@#%@"

Would like to add some of my thoughts along the lines (which i read on some views..). Including the whole music scene not just alternative, cause today's categories seem to be goin' , since all forms seem to crisscross each other...

* MOST of todays PinoyRock bands SUCK.

* Everyone seems to think getting a certificate from YAMAHA or wherever makes you a musician, madami pa kayong dapat kainin. Years and years of blood, sweat and tears.

* I really wish we excluded Subic Naval Base from our (so far, direction-less) Nationalistic trip. OLONGAPO was the perfect training ground for the pinoy musician. It was said if you did not do an honest stint in GAPO, you had no right to be in PINOYROCK. Sampaguita did hers, taking up residence in the motel right behind the club. Wally Gonzalez did too, Freddie Aguilar, etc. Man, a lot of you listeners probably were too young yet but man, a trip to GAPO in those days was a rockers dream...ULO NG APO performing accross the street from the FRICTIONS. MARIA CAFRA in 2 blocks away, and so on. STUNNING. MIND BLOWING MUSIC in one road, MAGSAYSAY BLVD (or was it Avenue?) It was hazy especially when the MOJO juice kicked in.

* Award bodies should really think about their criteria, etc. ERASERHEADS were, if I remember correctly, were given the LEGEND award by one award body 2 or 3 years back. ERASERHEADS, legends??? HUHHHHH? Wow man, PEPE, WALLY, HEBER, AUNT IRMA, PETRIFIED, MARIA CAFRA, those are legends man !!

* If someone claims to be a Lead Guitarist, but can't play the Blues, then he ain't so.

"The blues is not a style or phase of jazz, but a permanent substratum of all styles; not the whole of jazz, but it's heart." - ERIC HOBSBAWN

"Many of the young guys coming up didn't know or had forgotten their foundation - the blues." "That's the basis of jazz." - CHARLIE PARKER

Some nuisance musicians really just cant get it !

Yes it is... These groups never even thought about it. Playing "for free" for years time? Tsk Tsk !! Boy !! Lots of precious time wasted.. What are these bands expecting then? To be matinee icons or the ever popular "FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC..." prophets.Cant these hopefuls cut the crap and move on !

Striving for years without any progress (or even there is.. but not coinciding with the time spent) is bull ! A perfect example of wasting damn time. Analyze it then; If these musical groups are really bound to be somebody, why the long wait ? Makes sense huh ! Unless, they are happy with free gigs, endless "free food" deals and the ever popular "ticket selling" scheme.

How long will it be then ?? Have a hint ?? I mean hey, newer groups even got it faster. While
the ever popular "lovers of music" batallion still thrives on..Oh brother, some fish-brained people really just cant get it. Some even buy high-end equipments for their group, but without any RETURN OF INVESTMENT AT ALL !! Some even expect to be rock superstars with the screamin' high school girls and the throng of college chicks. But this, until the age of what ? 30 ? 40 ? Whoooaaahhh !!! Why don't these bands try to electrecute themselves!! Maybe it will activate their brains a little !!

Hep Hep Hep!! Of course, the retaliation part.. most of the lame excuses "they" are saying..

1.) "UUhh, this is for the love of music..."

-- The ever popular excuse of these super groups ! Gosh man ! Hope they tried tellin' it to their parents or to their respective wives maybe.. Will they be proud ?? "YEHEY !! MY SON / HUSBAND LOVES MUSIC !! THOUGH HE'S NOT PAID FOR IT !! YEHEY !!"

2.)"If others play sports, we play music.."

-- This is one annoying statement. Think about it; at least they dont play till 3:00 in the morning. They dont play for a bowl of sisig or pancit bihon and they don't come to work as liabilities for the day or morons in school.

3.)"Someday, we will make it..to the limelight.."

-- This I really gotta see. Well, if they still cant get it. All I can say is, expect another 10 years of free gigs from these bands..

TSK !!

Musician days are over (at last...)

I officially announce that me being a musician for almost 12 years, is finally ending.. Now !!. NO more SESSIONS , NO more JAMS , NO more PLAYIN'

I want to thank all of the organizations, groups and artists that I have been a part since 1993. My sincere gratitude to Tone-Def, Viva, JML records, RJ Music Bistro, Patrick of Clubdredd, Ramon Zialcita (the Doctor), DJ Carlos, LeoWai, BackDraft, Tribal Fish and to all my production manager's Bhey lapid and Irene Salvador..

Anointed days are over....
Beatlesque renditions are dead...
Alternative imitations are crap....

Now moving on to my career...
